A service drive on the north side of Lake City, now marked as North Lakeshore Drive, was once part of the original paved highway between Lake City and Red Wing. It runs along the southbound side of the highway from just north of Central Point Road until it dead-ends at Gilbert Creek.

Construction

The road was completed in 1924, and paved with concrete, 18 feet wide. Construction also included a bridge over Gilbert Creek.

Bypass History

The road was realigned in 1953 when the highway between Lake City and Red Wing was reconstructed and modernized.

Current Status

The original concrete surface on the service drive has been paved over. Otherwise, the road is intact.
