Dakota County's Trunk Highways
The following articles focus on the trunk highway network in Dakota County,
which lies at the southeastern corner of the Twin Cities Metro Area. Because
of its placement, many of the most important routes connecting southeast Minnesota
with the Twin Cities have passed through Dakota County over the years. Dakota
County has also undergone tremendous change as the northern portions of the
county have been suburbanized. There are still large regions of rural character
only miles from the edge of some of the fastest growing suburbs in the Twin
Cities. Several interstates and US routes, along with smaller, more rural
routes make Dakota County a good microcosm of the highway system in Minnesota
as a whole.
