Route Development Timeline:

1965: The first section of I-35E is completed in Dakota County as far south as Highway 13 at Lilydale. This section includes a bridge from St. Paul over the Mississippi River.

1966: I-35E is extended south to State Highway 110 in Mendota Heights.

1981: The section from the I-35/I-35W split in Burnsville to the Cedar Ave. Freeway (State Highway 77) in Eagan is completed.

1984: The section from State Highway 110 in Mendota Heights to Lone Oak Road in Eagan is completed. Construction includes the interchange with I-494.

1985: The final segment between Highway 77 and Lone Oak Road in Eagan is completed.

2004: The bridge over the Mississippi RIver at Lilydale is replaced.

Southern terminus from 1965 to 1966.


Interstate Highway 35:
1981-Present: Junction and southern terminus, at Burnsville.*

1981-Present: Junction and southern terminus, at Burnsville.


State Highway 55:
1984-Present: Underpass, in Eagan (no interchange constructed).


State Highway 77:
1981-Present: Junction, at interchange in Eagan.
Northern terminus from 1981 until 1985.


State Highway 110:
1966-Present: Junction, at interchange in Mendota Heights.
Southern terminus from 1966 until 1984.


Interstate Highway 494:
1984-Present: Junction, at interchange in Mendota Heights/Eagan.
